We’re sharing an important update about the future of the Funclass platform and the next step in making online teaching with Funclass more reliable and flexible.

The Funclass legacy classroom and China-based server will be fully retired on 30 April 2026. From that date onward, Funclass lessons will run using our fancy new "LIGHT LINKING" feature, which allows teachers to connect Funclass to any virtual classroom platform of their choice.

This milestone marks an important evolution for the platform and reflects our ongoing commitment to providing teachers with a stable, flexible and future-ready teaching environment and building the best gamified online teaching platform out there.

Why Funclass Is Retiring Its Legacy Virtual Classroom Platform

Over the past year, we’ve focused heavily on improving reliability and flexibility for online educators.

The original Funclass classroom was entirely web-based. While this allowed teachers and students to access lessons easily through a browser, performance ultimately depended on local internet stability, not just connection speed. This created inconsistent experiences for some teachers and students, particularly when teaching across borders.

Rather than continuing to maintain a classroom we could not consistently guarantee, we’ve chosen to focus on a model that gives teachers more choice and greater reliability.

With LIGHT LINKING, teachers are no longer tied to a single virtual classroom platform. Instead, you can simply connect Funclass to the platform that works best for you and your students.

LIGHT LINKING separates the live video classroom from the engagement and management features that make Funclass special.

This means teachers can choose the video platform that suits their situation, while still using Funclass to power the learning experience.

This gives teachers the flexibility to choose the best solution for their students while still using Funclass for rewards, engagement and learner management.

Important Deadline: Migrating from the Funclass Legacy Classroom

Because 30 April 2026 marks the end of our AWS China server contract, the legacy Funclass classroom cannot remain available beyond that date.

Teachers currently using the legacy classroom should plan to migrate to LIGHT LINKING well before the deadline. We recommend completing migration several weeks in advance so there is time to test your setup and ensure everything runs smoothly before the cutoff.

China Server Schedule Update Ahead of the Platform Transition

Ahead of the retirement date, we are making a small operational adjustment.

Starting midnight Saturday 7 March, the China server will be powered off overnight between 15:00–23:00 UTC each day.

Platform data shows that the system has consistently been unused during these hours, so this change should not affect any teachers or students.
